CNCEC Egypt International Equipment Manufacturing Base Project Officially Launched
On January 25th, 2026, Egypt local time, China National Chemical Engineering No.16 Construction Co., Ltd. (CNCEC16) and the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) officially signed a usufruct agreement for the “CNCEC Egypt International Equipment Manufacturing Base” project in Sokhna Industrial Zone. This agreement marks a significant milestone, launching the substantive implementation phase of CNCEC16’s parent company – China National Chemical Engineering Group Corporation Ltd.’s (CNCEC) production capacity deployment in the Middle East and Africa.
This project represents a concrete step toward implementing the proposals made by Mo Dingge, Chairman of China National Chemical Engineering Group, during his meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to accelerate the construction of the Egyptian soda ash project and deepen cooperation in the fields of energy, chemicals, and infrastructure. As China’s “national team” in the chemical engineering sector and a “pioneer” in the global chemical construction industry, China National Chemical Engineering has consistently and actively implemented the Belt and Road Initiative, deeply integrating itself into Egypt’s economic and social development. The company regards Egypt as one of the core pillars of its global strategy and, leveraging its leading technological capabilities, full-industry-chain engineering expertise, and highly responsible commitment to contract fulfillment, is dedicated to driving the upgrading of Egypt’s industrial system through localized manufacturing.

The project is located in the Sukhna Industrial Zone and will be implemented in three phases. Phase I covers an area of 100,000 square meters and is primarily designed to meet the localization needs of Egypt’s soda ash industry, with a focus on the prefabrication of steel structures and piping. It is planned to achieve an annual production capacity of 20,000 tons of steel structures and 400,000 square meters of prefabricated piping. Phase II will be upgraded into a chemical equipment manufacturing base, focusing on the production of pressure vessels and non-standard equipment. Phase III is planned to expand into 30,000-ton-class modular manufacturing, with a total area of 200,000 square meters, and will include the construction of dedicated berths. Through “zone-port integration,” it will achieve efficient coordination between production and logistics. Led by the 16th Chemical Construction Group and jointly developed with Tianchen Company, Donghua Company, Wuhuan Company, International Engineering Company, and Equipment Technology Company, this base will serve as a key showcase for “Made in China, Chinese Technology, and Chinese Standards,” establishing itself as a prestigious calling card for the “China National Chemical Engineering” brand overseas.

At the signing ceremony, Zhang Hongfeng noted that the 16th Chemical Construction Group will use the Egypt International Equipment Manufacturing Base as a strategic foothold to comprehensively advance its localization strategy. The company will increase the proportion of local procurement, manufacturing, and employment; cultivate local Egyptian talent in chemical engineering and management; build a bridge for industrial cooperation and mutually beneficial development between China and Egypt; continue to support the upgrading of Egypt’s industrial system; and inject sustained momentum into the development of the Belt and Road Initiative.
Chairman Walid Jamaludin stated that the project represents a concrete step toward implementing President Sisi’s strategy to promote the localization of key industries. As a strategic material used in the chemical, petrochemical, and tire sectors, the implementation of this project will significantly enhance Egypt’s industrial self-sufficiency, reduce reliance on imports, and increase the value added of these industries. He pledged that the economic zone would provide comprehensive support for the project and, leveraging the trade agreements Egypt has signed with multiple countries, assist in bringing the products to regional and global markets.
