Located in the Ain Sokhna Industrial Zone, Suez Governorate, Egypt, this project is a key part of the NCIC Phase III Fertilizer Complex undertaken by Wuhuan Engineering Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China National Chemical Engineering Group. Utilizing natural gas, phosphate rock, and sulfur as raw materials, the complex produces ammonia, granular urea, and phosphate fertilizers. As the first natural gas-to-ammonia-and-urea project secured by a Chinese engineering company in the Egyptian market, it stands as a landmark initiative under the Belt and Road Initiative and a model of Sino-Egyptian production capacity cooperation.
For the phosphate fertilizer scope, the completed industrial facilities include plant perimeter walls, raw material warehouse, spare parts warehouse, fire pump house, foam fire station, maintenance workshop, changing rooms, and MAP/DAP workshops. The total built-up area amounts to 6,500 square meters, with a total concrete volume of 15,000 cubic meters and 1,200 tons of steel reinforcement. During project execution, internationally advanced process technologies and stringent quality and safety standards were adopted, supported by refined management throughout the entire lifecycle. The construction quality and schedule performance were highly recognized by the client and Egyptian authorities.
The successful implementation of this project has significantly contributed to the upgrading of Egypt’s local chemical industrial chain, created substantial employment opportunities, and cultivated a group of skilled technical professionals. Moreover, it has greatly strengthened Egypt’s self-sufficiency in fertilizer production, delivering strategic value to regional food security.
